Jewel in your Metal Collection
« on: April 01, 2007, 09:48:33 AM »

Well, in a world where metal is devalued by serial downloaders who give nothing back to the scene they profess to be a part of, with MP3s being hoarded by faceless cyber-locusts with monolithic hard-drives of material, (a large quantity of which will most likely end up completely unlistened to, so spoiled are they for choice)... what would you say is the jewel in your actual physical music collection?

For me, it'd be my original Amon demos tapes I picked up 2nd hand whilst on holiday in Florida in my early teens (That's the pre-Deicide Amon), and possibly also my original early Clandestine Blaze / Judas Iscariot presses.  bow If I were to have a house fire, they'd most certainly be coming with me...

For ages I had a copy of Judas Priests' "Stained Glass" which I'm sure had a very limited printing run, but unfortunately it got stolen  icon_evil

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane original 1995 release on Nuclear Blast America. I think that's about it, and I'm not even sure if it's anything special.

I also have the True Legends in Black Mayhem/Darkthrone, as well as Cradle of Filth - Sodomizing the Virgin Vamps as bootlegs. But I don't think those are too rare.

EDIT: Well, also, I have a few signed things, such as Cryptopsy's Blasphemy Made Flesh (original artwork, re-release on displeased) signed by Lord Worm, Black Metal Ist Krieg signed by Kanwulf, and a magazine signed by all the Krisiun fellas.

I don't have much in the way of rare stuff, but I have the original pressings of Hypocrisy - Penetralia and Incantation - Onward to Golgatha, which are supposedly a bit hard to come by, but not too difficult. In terms of limited releases, Xantotol - Liber Diabolus: 1991-1996 is limited to 666 copies (mine is 147 or something).

That's a killer album - I have that too - No. 299. When it comes to handnumbered stuff, the most limited thing I have (off the top of my head) is the digipak version of Dusk's 'Deathgate', which is limited to a super mean 100. When it comes to signed stuff, I have a signed Dissection album (signed by Jon and the rest of the classic line-up), and some signed Megadeth/Sepultura stuff.

Yes, and he won't yousendit MP3s to you no matter how you beg.  laugh

I have an original Deathlike Silence copy of an Abruptum album, which I don't really prize that highly.  I'm much more likely to lunge for my Nightwish boxed set (which they don't make anymore), or my Twisted Tower Dire "Battle Hymns to the Pantheon" ( a compilation made exclusively for the Greek market).  I treasure my promo-only copies of Dagorlad's "Herald Of Doom" demo and Wastoid's second Demo, as well as my hand-numbered copies of Abusus and Verdunkeln.  Not to forget my Ironsword CDs - not that they are rare, but they would be a bitch to replace now.

Some original Obituary and Cannibal Corpse CDs I suppose, also a Nergal - "Wizard of Nerath" CD which is a reissue from the same year but still hard to find it seems. I dont really give a fuck to be honest since I'd rather not pay $100 per CD, thats just financial idiocy.

Original Mutiilation and Gontyna Kry limited releases. (Which I don't really listen to anymore). Not incredibly rare by any means.

I have number 777 of 900 of Rites of Thy Degringolade's Totality. I value that much more than the other stuff, though like the others, not all that uncommon.

I didn't mean it in that way, that'd be far too easy (and stupid). I meant things you've picked up along the way of collecting that've become rare and that you're proud to own, rather than stuff any idiot could pick up off eBay via selling of body parts on the black market. It'd be a shame if a person didn't feel pride in their collection.

What the...?!  OK so that was an April fool - I see now.  peep
