Another 'do without day', but hey, I feel like trying.

<slightly off topic>
I "do without" a lot of things on a daily basis to reduce my waste of various things (whether it's garbage or energy), so personally I boycott all the "do without" days.  A few weeks ago some idea originating from France was to shut off all lights at 7:55pm for 5 minutes (I believe that was Feb. 1.)  Well, I already make an effort to save power every single day, so I was not about to participate in some "feel good" party with people who would then proceed to turn on all the lights in their homes at 8pm and every day after that.
</slightly off topic>

And I frequently have several days without my computer and I'm still alive, just like I know people who don't have one and never used one and don't give a shit about it.  Frankly whoever came up with that needs a hobby - away from the computer so they don't create a web page about it. laugh

I think days like this are so pointless. Whats it trying to accomplish? I once had someone try to get me to participate in an international orgasm day. The idea was that if every single person had an orgasm at the same time a wave of good energy would spread over the earth and all violence would end  laugh laugh.

Man... I remember reading that at any given point during the day, 2 million couples in the world are making love. That's a lot of people and I sure as hell ain't feeling any good energy spreading over the Earth as of yet.  icon_cool

I remember reading that in Argentina you're not allowed to drive on weekends in certain cities, or you'll be severely caned.  That's two 'do without' days per week.

I think in Paris people are only allowed to drive their car every other day or something like that - I read that several years ago, I don't know if that's still true (or if the idea was actually implemented.)

I find it hard to believe.  We have friends over there - they would have told us for sure.  However, I find it fascinating that the guillotine was abolished only twenty-something years ago.  In the early seventies heads were being chopped off like nobody's business.  We're talking modern day France!  Can you believe that

Yeah well, some people deserve to get their heads chopped off, you know. Unless, of course, your society is so overly cosmopolitan, liberal and gay like those of some Scandanavian states, then, no you don't need to behead people.

Yeah, that was my old screen name. I'm from Pakistan, by the way. I thought you knew that. We prefer hanging rather than chopping, by the way, but it's the same thing.

I know you said you were from Pakistan before, I was just trying to imply that you were lying - I guess I failed.

Hanging is so much more brutal than an instant beheading or the guillotine though. I personally would be against any such thing, but if death penalty HAD to be implemented, beheading would be the way to go.

I don't know about Paris, but they have that system in South America, could have been Curitiba, but I'm not sure. Even numbers in the registrate plate could drive on even dates and vice versa, or something like that. It works well for people that don't have so much money, the richer ones just gets one car with even nuber and one with odd.

Yeah it was something like that, based on the plate number.
