Anyone here build models?

Just wondering if anyone here builds or has built models in the past. I have been thinking of building a wooden model ship for relaxation. I have seen some of these kits and they simply look amazing (I prefer the ships from the 16th to the 19th century) although also very complicated. Just wondering if there was anyone here with any tips for someone that has never built a damn model in my entire life... Grin

built some models as a kid (IIWW planes, mainly). Then I got into roleplaying and painted a few miniatures. I sucked badly, but I enjoyed it. I was thinking of taking up the hobby again for Christmas. I could buy some Hordes minis, by Privateer Press. They look great.

Tips? Start doing small, easy things. Buy cheap models at first.

I've built a couple before. The only advice I could really give is to start out with bigger, cheaper and less complex models (i.e WW2 airplanes for kids) and then move up to complex shit like nuclear subs and Man o' Wars.

My friend used to be into trains, planes, and cars. I never liked to do stuff with my hands. Even Legos pissed me off. If you make something fragile, one of these days you'll get an impulse to stomp on it, or throw it out of the window. So what's the point really?

I used to build model cars when I was younger. I was pretty bad at putting them together. Difficult stuff, I have a real respect for those that can do it well.

I don't have the patience or the advanced fine motor skills to paint stuff like that. The closest I ever got to model building was with LEGOs.

I used to do models as a kid. I still have one of a Viking ship that I did when I was 9 years old that I got for Christmas 1972.

yup, my cousin builds models flawlessly...hes 12

he also plays the guitar better than most people i know... icon_rolleyes
