Metal that you shouldn't be without
« on: January 05, 2012, 03:50:54 AM »

I was reading the recent review of Acid Bath and it was given a 5/5.I couldn't agree more. What a spectacular review to a timeless classic.Which got me thinking, what other metal releases would be considered this good and never forgotten? What records should a collection never be without? deal

Definitely Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.  But that's just my opinion

Most of Death's discography, Images and Words, Candlemass' first four, almost anything from Blind Guardian, The Divine Wings of Tragedy, Hall of the Mountain King, Painkiller, The Ultra-Violence, Transcendence, Operation: Mindcrime, Nordland I.

All excellent choices so far.

Any one who dares call him/herself a metal obviously has to have Holy Diver.

I would also say that Tad Morose's last three albums with Urban Breed (Undead, Matters Of The Dark, Modus Vivendi) are essential as well. Just amazing pieces of work.

Yeah, and when you get on the subject of Maiden, I would almost be willing to say the first seven albums. For the most part, I prefer Somewhere in Time or Seventh Son over Killers and The Number of the Beast, and at times Piece of Mind. Those first seven albums are classics in my eyes, and everybody needs to hear them at least once.

Lost Horizon - A Flame to the Ground Beneath and Awakening the World
Slayer - Hell Awaits
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Rainbow - Rising
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Just some stuff from the top of my head, don't think they have been mentioned yet.

Crap, most of the stuff I would have mentioned have been posted already.

I'd say Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys albums if only because of their history in power metal, though they are still pretty good.
Onslaught - The Force
I can't believe Celtic Frost's To Mega Therion hasn't been mentioned.
Bathory - Blood Fire Death
Pagan Altar - Mythical and Magical (heard The Lords of Hypocrisy is just as good...but I need to listen to it first)
The first three Metal Church albums
Omen - Battle Cry
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends

There's still a good number of extreme metal albums I want to put, but I'll leave it for later.

On a side note, I've seen a lot of pointless non-metal topics in the Metal Discussions forum, but I think this is the first time I see a metal topic being posted in the General section.  icon_razz
