Metallica and Megadeth to Create Supergroup?
By Ivana Kvesic | Christian Post Contributor
Is heavy metal band Metallica ready to join forces and create a new heavy metal music empire?
It is being reported that Dave Mustaine of the heavy metal group Megadeth has been reaching out to his former band-mates Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield in an attempt to create some heavy metal music magic.
Mustaine was part of Metallica for two years in the band’s early days.
He was the band’s lead guitarist until he was fired from the group in 1983 and went on to find another heavy metal band, Megadeth.
Mustaine told the Texas radio station The Eagle Rocks of his collaborative goals, “James never said no, but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list (of things to do before I die).”
Antimusic.com has reported that the two groups, Metallica and Megadeth, have been attempting for years to set up music tours together, but never got around to it due to scheduling issues.
The news of a possible collaboration hit on the eve of a very special day of for the band Metallica.
Today marks 20 years that Metallica released their “Metallica” album, also commonly referred to as the “Black Album.”
The groundbreaking album sold over 22 million copies in the United States and became a number one record in nearly 20 countries across the globe.
The album redefined the heavy metal music scene, catapulted the band into the mainstream music, and enshrined the group into heavy metal music history.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told Musician magazine that the success of the “Metallica” album would never be duplicated.
He said, “I believe that you don’t have more than one gargantuan record in your career. I don’t think it’s possible. You have a record like Back in Black. You have a record like Synchronicity. You have a record like Nevermind. You have a record like the Black album. But you don’t have more than one like that.”
If Megadeth’s Mustaine has things his way, Ulrich would have spoken too soon.

Don't know what the "christian post" is - but it strikes me as less than reliable source of metal news. And the content of that piece more than demonstrate their ignorance.

A super-SUCK group maybe.
Man, the ONLY way $hittallica could get any worse is if they added that douchebag Mustaine.

This was reported on Blabbermouth as well, not sure where they got the source material. "super" is definitely a misnomer in this case.

I've never liked Megadeth or Metallica so they could all hop in a tour bus together and go careen off a mountaintop....

Who cares, two of the most over-hyped suck ass groups in metal history, yet the mainstream masses will lap this shit up, want to hear real metal band with a distinguished discography dating back to the early eighties check out Manilla Road, enough said!

I'm not into either band so I'm not fussed.
Super groups usually fail due to poor songwriting. It doesn't matter how good each musician (or famous) is if their composer can't string together a good riff or phrasing. Nothing springs to mind but during my time reading reviews on this site, I've noted that a common critique is crappy songwriting in regards to these side-project bands.

Yeah, most supergroup side projects seem to just be novelty acts.

Dude, that's pretty low, considering that's exactly how Cliff Burton, Metallica's first bassist, died. Really?
As for the Super group idea, I kinda file this under "whatever." Wasn't Metallica supposed to be teaming up with Lou Reed?
Still, I can't shake this feeling that Mustaine is trying to get back in with his more successful "buddies," like "If you can't beat them, join them."

Dave Mustaine has been talking about this for a long time now. I remember reading in one of the guitar mags, probably around the late '90s, that he wanted to make a supergroup out of James, Lars, David Ellefson, and himself. His exact quote, if memory serves, was "people would be so blown away they'd probably have to kill themselves."
I've got a feeling that at this point, if they did get together and make an album, hearing it might drive you to kill yourself, but not because you'd be blown away...
Although I thought
Endgame
was good.

I don't wish *death* upon anyone; this was just a reactionary statement to bullshit "metal" news that I detest. To say the obvious...
