Am I going crazy??
« on: February 07, 2011, 07:01:08 PM »

For more than 2 weeks, I've been listening to Stargazer from Rainbow. I mean litteraly. It has been the only song from my Ipod that I play. It has played 224 times in my Ipod and that's not counting the Cd in my car. I just can't stop linstening to it.

Ronnie's voice is just goldy bow  from start to finish that it brings tears to my eyes especially during the last 3 minutes. Ritchie's solo ... WOW. Everything is perfect.

Hope I'm not going to finish in an asylum.

There's nothing wrong with this. There's a reason we mourned Dio's passing.

For a period of time, I considered that song to be the single greatest thing I've ever listened to. I wouldn't be so overarching now but it's still up there as one of my favorite songs and is a large part of the reason why I love Rainbow so much.

I think it's the best song of the 1970s.  It's a shame it's not in radio rotation, like it's predecessor, Kashmir, by Led Zeppelin.  Stargazer is miles above that one.  Blackmore and Dio were fantastic songwriters together.

I've always liked it better than Kashmir, but people seem to rave about that Zeppelin song while knowing nothing of Stargazer.

On a related note, I notice every time I want to hear Stargazer, I let it run through A Light in the Black, too. For me, those two songs are nigh inseparable.

"Rising" is one of the few albums I heard first on LP and the moment I first heard "Stargazer" was quite glorious. When Dio passed away my dad and I listened to it in silence, and let it go through "A Light In The Black" too.

A Light in the Black is the direct continuation of Stargazer.  Both amazing epics, obviously.  This thread sparked me to listen to both.  That last-sung chorus of Stargazer is phenomenal, with the drawn-out singing and lyrics.  Probably the highlight of Ronnie's career in my books.  I was almost in tears, like metaldomdom.  You can definitely see how that song, and Rainbow in general, inspired later metal epics, particularly by Axel Rudi Pell and my favourite band, Virgin Steele.  Defeis surely listened to his Rainbow records.

I actually prefer Light in the Black peep

That whole album, however, is brilliant.

hey guys thank you for sharing that. I think it just hit me that he's not here singing anymore and that's a shame. I'm glad I got to see him with Iron Maiden, Motorhead in 2003 and in 2006 with Black Sabbath (H&H).

Now I just wish it was summer and not winter in Montreal so I could blast it through my new speakers in my cars hahaha Take that you rapper boys with your boum boum in you cars

Sometimes I think I prefer it, then later I think I prefer Stargazer. They're both so good that when I listen to one, I just have to listen to the other. The whole album is great but those two at the end are, to paraphrase someone else in this thread, the best songs of the 70s.

Now I'm gonna go listen to Gates of Babylon to follow up on this. ylsuper

Great thread!

Agreed, that last chorus is as moving as anything I've ever listened to.

It's one of my top ten albums. Truly a masterpiece. I had a T-shirt of Rising and I wore it to rags.  bow

The whole album is amazing, but yes indeed, "Stargazer" is a good tune, all right. I've heard people say it sparked the birth of power metal. I believe that in some ways, along with parts of "Tarot Woman" and "A Light In The Black".
