Myspace have managed to out-suck themselves. That's quite an accomplishment. Of course there's now a petition to "get the old Myspace back."

Do they still have music? That's all I care about.

They redesigned it. Ad placement is shit, and the thing is slow as hell. Access to various things is all over the place (as if it wasn't bad enough before.) I don't use it much and already hated it, so this isn't going to help. The music player seems intact, though on some pages I wasn't able to listen to any music (might have been some custom thing.) Their changes makes the very simple page I created for the site look even shittier (especially with the ad placement in the second column on the right...)
Quite frankly I wish Myspace would just die. I'm tired of lazy bands just creating a useless Myspace page, no web site and no valuable band information (can't rely on Metal-Archives for many things, as it's a bit like Wikipedia in that some information is wrong - been getting worse in the past few weeks with labels and bands e-mailing me about error in reviews, and the information happened to come from M-A.)

I wondered why I had to scroll right on Anvil's page when I was writing a review. And what's with the dark gray bar at the bottom? It goes across almost the entire screen and only has info and privacy buttons way on the right. This sucks, as some bands do actually put useful info in their blogs (i.e. Melechesh put a track by track description of
The Epigenesis
on their space).

Damn, just went on myspace to listen to a band. I actually couldn't scroll on the page, or do anything really. Not sure if it might be down to my browser but fuck, I use internet explorer so you'd expect it to work on like your typical default browser. Fucking retarded.
I actually used to find myspace quite handy, particularly when checking out bands where they don't have tracks on youtube.

I've run into a number of pages that wouldn't scroll or anything.
Fine for songs, but most bands have no useful information on there. It's made for little girls, not for band pages.
They also changed the notification e-mail when somebody adds you as a friend. Now it's "blablabla
friended
you on Myspace." Gay.

Sounds like it's in the dying throes. Facebook has won, and they know it.

Facebook doesn't have the music player though (at least I don't think so.) Would be nice to see it die and see all those bands scrambling to get a real web presence instead of a half-assed Myspace page.

While adding today's reviews, I noticed that Secret Sphere is yet another band that has dropped its web site in favor of a Myspace page. I seem to recall that they had a decent web site.

This just ticks me off. And it's like bands who DO maintain their site will keep their Myspace more recent than that. GG guys, way to look professional. I tried looking up Human Fortress's website yesterday because I'd heard rumors of them releasing another album that's back to the good style of the first two. Their website is now non-functional (so it seems), and their Myspace's one update in the last year or two is just a quick "we're looking for a new singer kthx!"
I am disappointed.

Facebook is no better, if the band doesn't do anything with it. I did find a pretty cool demo from a True Metal band on Facebook. Visigoth is the band, if anyone is interested. They do an Omen cover, if that's any indication of the style. The demo is free.
