Well, I can see that between Pathfinder and Theocracy, I've fast become the odd one out on a few things here. See, I have a hard time dealing with this problem I seem to have that a lot of metalheads don't seem to (not immediately including any Crypt folks here, since I barely know you fellows). I'm a very happy person and I like happy music, but at the same time I can't stand pop and need complexity, melody, some misanthropy, questioning our beliefs (in various areas) and thoughtfulness. I can't really enjoy most non-melodic black metal and a lot of more aggressive death/thrash as a result of my attitude and tastes, which makes me kind of a niche listener, though I'm slowly branching out.
Yeah, I'm Catholic as well, but I think you have to be pretty open-minded to listen to metal alone, let alone forum crawl amicably.
I'll never throw anyone else under the bus when it comes to taste, as I like to think of myself as pretty tolerant. My corner is prog and power (some melo-death and folk), so I'll mostly just be quiet otherwise unless it's something I happen to know about :P I don't understand the want for hateful or violent music myself, but I suppose folks gotta have a release somewhere. Maybe I'm not just that "metal", or maybe I just run into the wrong kinds of folks most places. You guys seem all right though. :P
That's it, just wanted to get that out of the way

I think we're all kind of wierd around here.
You like what you like, I'm not one to judge someone on their tastes. Some of my best friends listen to chart music (I just can't brainwash them with power metal, try as I may).

Hi Pathfinder.
My name is Jan and I am weird also.
Don't worry - tastes differ, personally I am mostly into traditional heavy & doom metal, but I also listen to some of the other genres, trash being the most notable.
I am divided on power metal - some of it seems ok (US power type) some I don't like at all (Euro/italian flowery/dragon type). Progressive and extreme metal I tend to avoid.
But even though I respect the fact that we are all different with different tastes - that will not stop me from teasing and namecalling. But I mean it to be goodnatured - should you or others ever feel otherwise, please let me know.
As for your beliefs: Personally I think religion is the scourge of mankind - responsible for numerous atrocities throughout history. It is all about the few controlling the minds, life and sexuality of the many.
So I will never in a million years understand why religious people believe as they do. But I respect your right to believe what ever you want, as long as you do the same for me.

Heh. It wasn't a post so much to express worry about people not liking what I do. It was just a more thorough intro since I've always liked this site and intend to be here awhile.
Since I've read for a good while, I tend to know the temperaments and tastes of some of the members, whereas you fellows haven't had that *ahem* privilege with myself. :P So it was a bit more about myself, but I felt it was too varied for the n00b thread.
I won't get swept up in religious conversation too far (it's something I like), but I certainly will acknowledge full tolerance of most everyone and anything. By and large, I don't believe the same way as a lot of actively practicing Christians do, and am not easily offended because of it. Silly name-calling is all well and good. I'm not a jerk, and I expect others to be thoughtful and considerate as well, as I assume does everyone else here.
So yes, well-met friend.

Religious bickering is so uninteresting that if I see one on a forum I will usually just leave right away.
But yeah, welcome to the forums. Just don't take things too seriously or be annoying and you'll fit right in.

Hahaha good one Michel.
Musical tatstes differ because metal offers such a large spectrum. My humble opinion is listen to everything and dont judge before listening, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
Something i've learned is that people change, so does their mood and musical taste somewhat what you might like now may become boring and you might crave something new in a couple of years.
Of course thats why the classics stand the test of time and all the above

Yeah, it took me a long time to get into harsh vocals at all. Now of course, I'm all over melo-death. Such was not always the case.
Thank you, Michel, for dumping on my thread. I'm now safe to go order the new Dark Moor without fear of having myself soiled any further.

Every time I see 'thrash' misspelled as 'trash' I groan, unless the typo was made by someone who actually listens to trash, rather than thrash (which is often the case). In which case I chuckle heartily to myself.

Interesting. I'm from Anoka. I was reading your concert reviews and you mentioned you went to the Cabooze the other night. What's your Facebook, maybe we can go concerting sometime, if I ever get my hands on some money? I usually only get Monday and Tuesday night off from work though. Graveyard shift. Icarus Witch and Paul Dianno were at station 4 the other night and it pained me I couldn't go.

Profile picture is of my fiancee and I dressed up at a wedding.
I don't have many local acquaintances who are into metal (most of the concert-goers I meet are a little too immature for me :P). I know I'm planning on hitting up the Swordlord's Christmas concert at Station Four on the 17th with a buddy or two of mine. I'd probably go to concerts a lot more often if I knew someone who was really into the music, so that could be cool.
I work some varied hours, but have a very flexible schedule, so I can generally make anything work.
