Help!
«
on:
August 11, 2010, 08:33:31 AM »
I love the music from Children of Bodom regarding HateBreeder and Follow the Reaper. It may be some of the best metal music I've heard. Yet, I do not like the vocals. Sure, there are a hell of a lot worse....but after a few minutes, I tire of them. So my question is this: Are there any bands out there musically who have "better" vocalists but are quite similiar musically to COB? By that I mean, nothing black metalish or death like. There are plenty of thrash/speed metal vocalists that I like. Most power metal.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I can't really think of any band right now,
maybe stormwarrior but they dont have that neoclassical feel you are probably looking for.
haven't listened to some bodom in a long time actually so i kind of forgot their sound :s

You could try Twilightning's debut album, its quite Bodomish - although it does have quite the injection of 80's hair metal. In fact you'll find similarities in a load of Finnish power metal acts, although COB tend to be a lot more punchy riff-wise.
Sinergy are certainly worth your time, they have Alexi Laiho on guitars and they're basically the power metal version of COB with female vocals, check out the reviews for them on here but I'm sure you will enjoy them.
Failing that, type COB into last.fm and browse the similar artists section

Kiuas's debut is pretty Bodom-ish, although not quite as over the top in the soloing department. Still harsh, crude and wild though.

I do have their debut. I did like it. Yeah...I guess they are a lil similiar, just not as "hard". Sinergy, have their (her?) albums.....great stuff. Wish they would put out something else though.
I'll take up your advice and check out last.fm........
Thanks.

Check Out:
Epidemia from Russia (similar to bodom only not as fast as hatebreeder and very clean high pitched vocals)
Zandelle - Flames of Rage (2009)
Otherwise you might want to listen to some neoclassical solo artists works the like of Katsu Ohta or Akira Kajiyama and many others i can mention if you find these interesting.
Another neoclassical band you will definitely enjoy is Cacophony
This is also something you might find rather interesting

Thanks for all the info. Theres a band that I know, but cannot think of, that is a carbon copy of COB...I just cannot think of name right now. They're often compared to them. Except its the same problem, similar vocalist, which again, I do not like. Anyway, unto your ideas. Epidemia and Zandelle just didnt have the power and punch of COB. Maybe I'm just too picky. I will say Katsu does kick ass, but doesnt remind me of COB...more Yngwie. Just better. Akira, the samples I heard, some great music...but sung in Japanese! Damn, I'm picky! As for the Finnish guitarists....I have most of them.
I'm off to check of last.fm!
Thanks for the all the help!

while they're probably not exactly on the mark of what you're asking for with the thread topic, you still might enjoy early Firewind or Symphony X
for Firewind I'd start with Burning Earth
for Symphony X I'd go with Paradise Lost

could be, also could be thinking of Kalmah (although 'carbon copy' is a bit unfair, especially by Swampsong. imo Kalmah did the formula better than CoB ever did anyways)
