Question For USPM Fans
« on: July 01, 2010, 03:22:23 AM »

How many of you USPM fans have a cassette deck and still listen to some music on cassette? Thanks.

I have to confess, I only have a few cassettes left over for sentimental value.  I never listen to them.

I listen to cassettes mostly in the car.

When I'm at home it's normally either LPs or digitally from my computer.

I got rid of most of my prerecorded cassettes, although I still have several, mostly for sentimental reasons.  I also have a ton of tapes I made from vinyl.  I only have a cassette player in the basement, so I hardly listen to them.

I still have all my cassettes, prerecorded, tapes off vinyl LP's, and the radio. Both my stereos and my boom box have cassette decks and CD player, and my main stereo also has an LP turntable.

I wouldn't buy a tape, unless it was the only format the material was released on. I have a shitload of tapes (pre-recorded, demo and self recorded from vinyl), but they rarely see the light of day.

If you need tape decks go to your nearest Goodwill.

I have a pretty big stereo setup that costed me around $20, with 4 tape slots, cd changer, amplifier, reciever, and radio.

You can usually find good tape decks that record and play out perfectly for around $5 there.

To be honest, I don't know what I'm looking for...

I fail to see the point in listening to cassettes. People around here think I'm old fashioned listening to cds instead of mp3s. Never mind tapes.  Grin

Some bands are very against digital media, due to the ease of ripping, and then sharing.

Tapes and LPs are what some bands prefer to limit the sharing of their music, and tapes are a hell of a lot cheaper to print than LPs, and are easy to make from home.

That's not why bands go for vinyl or tape.

Well, at least some of them do, from what I've read in interviews or talked to on other forums.

Thanks to all of you for giving me your opinions on cassette tapes. I am thinking I might like to release a three song Cauldron Born EP/demo thing on cassette,so I can get something out this year. The problem is that I would rather not compromise the full length in doing so,so I was hoping that the people who are really interested in Cauldron Born would buy the cassette and those who would immediately take it and upload it for free all over the internet, would see it as too much trouble to deal with, and just turn their nose up at it. The reason I would like to make the cassette is that I would like to have something out this year. I am not really looking to make a profit, just break even.  I would just like to have something to whet the appetite of those who are interested. I wanted to put a couple of songs up on myspace for everyone to listen to and figured I might as well have an actual limited edition pressing of it for those who want to listen to it away from their computers. I was thinking two songs that will be on the album, plus maybe a Heavy Load cover. Thanks again guys.

I do buy cassettes on occasion, though mostly thrash and black metal (haven't seen much else released on cassette in recent years.)

Well, that's different.  Anything from Cauldron Born I will be interested in.

I would definitely buy something like that to support the band.  I just don't buy or listen to tapes as a general rule.
