Metal is Forever

Tinnitus
« on: April 30, 2009, 08:39:21 AM »

Hi.

I've got tinnitus. I will not use this board as therapy, and I don't expect pity. I'm just writing to tell you how bad it is and how simple it is to prevent it.

Tinnitus is the ringing noise you have in your ears after listening to loud noises. Except that this one doesn't go away. It is really annoying, and it makes reading, studying and sleeping difficult. In some cases, it can drive you mad and lead you to suicide. My case isn't that bad, I can still sleep, so I'm OK. There is no cure for tinnitus. If you get it, it will stay with you forever.

We all like loud music, but that doesn't mean that we have to play it at an insane level. It will hurt your hearing really bad. Look after yourself.

That's why, ever since Deep Purple in 1984, I have worn ear plugs at shows.  I spent that whole show with my hands over my ears because it was painfully loud.

Don't care how stupid it looks.

The loudest gig I ever went to was The Who in 2000. I had just seen Iron Maiden the night before, but The Who were actually louder.
