Blue Oyster Cult Question
« on: September 10, 2006, 07:46:23 PM »

First, let me say how much I enjoy this band's music. They were in a league all their own.I have 3 Greatest Hits compilations and their first album. As you all probably know, their discography is pretty extensive.Which brings me to my question:

Which 1 or 2 albums are MUST-haves?

I'm only familiar with "Spectres" and "Fire of Unknown Origins", so I say those two.

Great band.  Fire of Unknown Origin is great, but I wouldn't have this in metal discussions though.

Great band.  Fire of Unknown Origin is great, but I wouldn't have this in metal discussions though.

Didn't Blue Oyster Cult coin the term "Heavy Metal" anyways?

I guess they can be included here if MetalCrypt will allow Proto-Metal/Hard Rock bands here.  Grin

I love "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Burnin' For You", and "Astronomy".  I used to have a greatest hits, but I gave it away.  I'm interested in collecting their discography (no compilations or live albums), as well.

I had their "Extraterrestial Live" album on 8-track. Unfortunately, since they don't make 8-track players anymore....

Generally the things that are absolutely essential are the records up to "Agents Of Fortune" + "Fire Of Unknown Origin" - and I agree that the band is great stuff - classic hard rock...

They had a live album/dvd that came out a year or two ago that was simply awe-inspiring. They just absolutely killed it live even at their age there has been absolutely no decline..the Hard Rock version of Saxon... Grin

True - but Blue Oyster had some CD's that were less then stellar - but so did Saxon for that matter...

Anyways - a band to reccommend - in fact I think there should be Hard Rock thread to reccomend and discuss great bands like this one...
