So the European Championship kicked off today! Did anyone watch the game?

Soccer? Ahh, you mean football of course.  naughty

Yeah I've been watching, even though England didn't make it. Pretty dull games thus far. Hopefully the Holland/France/Italy/Romania group games will spice things up a bit.

Yep, I plan to follow the European Championship. I watched bits of today's games, but I'm Swedish, so it doesn't become really interesting until Tuesday for me. Grin I think Portugal or Germany will win though, Sweden doesn't stand a chance.

Yeah saw both games this afternoon. None of them were especially interesting but I thought Portugal were quite unlucky. The scoreline doesn't really show how thoroughly they dominated the game today.
As usual, I'll cheer for France, but I think Ze Germans have a pretty good shot at victory this time around.

Poland vs. Germany, gonna be a heel of a match!

And Germany will not win the title, you can count on that, even if they beat poland tomorrow.

Too bad SBS won't show that match, and the ones they show are at 2am :(

I live in the States, but when I was 17 I had the fortune of living in Germany during the summer. Never really watched soccer before then, but when I was there the World Cup was on and I gotta say it was fun to watch, man you Europeans are crazy about that shit....you make Yankees fans look tame.

Yeah, the European football pub culture is just insane. England is full of fanatical boys and there are plenty of hooligans around as well. Soviet Russians are probably the most brutal of them all.

I follow football sometimes though. I used to follow the Spanish and English leagues a long time ago, I've lost interest now though.

Yeah, in most of Europe and South America, football makes otherwise normal people go apeshit, regardless of how good their team really are. It's quite interesting.

Excellent for fighting insomnia.

Actually I never really bothered to watch a game (except a few minutes.)  But I no longer watch full hockey games, so I'm not about to watch soccer games. laugh

Yeah, it's true. In Spain football is God Almighty. 50% of the news is devoted to football and to football alone. I've never been into football, but I remember a time when my brother and my dad were not on speaking terms - they only talked about football. So, in the end, the sport kept my family together.

I feel really bad for the Swiss team... They deserved three points yesterday. Portugal is one of my favourites, they played well last night, and they're fun to watch. Spain has one hell of a team, with extremely talented players. But they do not seem to reach very far in any championship. Italy is boring but probably the best candidates. Germany too. France are struggling with injuries on key player like Ribery, Vieira and Henry.

The Germans should do well, they're in the easier side of the draw so certainly have that in their favour. However, I drew no-hopers Poland in my work's sweepstake, so will be rooting for them! Go Polska!!  cheers

I just talked to this Polish guy I know and he's saying people there are really tensed about the match because they always seem to lose to Germany, especially in these big encounters. I guess I'm with the underdogs on this one as well although Germany's always been one of my favorite teams. Kinda hard to choose ... Like Stormwarrior vs Crystal Viper  laugh

It starts in around 15 minutes now.
