Cobras are smart.  I've had them since they were small, and they know me.  You have to be careful, always, but they can be managed barehanded.  The rattler is pretty tame for what she is, which is a 15 pound eastern diamondback, but still, I use a hook for her.  Laws are more lax here in the US, and they vary by state.  Where I am, outside the city, I don't need anything but a breeder's license.

How do they behave towards others? I know a guy with a tame indian python... It is kind of like a guard dog. very sceptical towards others, but can like sleep in the same bed as the owner.

Hell, most people shit themselves over a boa.  Statistically most burglars head for the bedroom to go through the drawers first thing.  Right next to mine is a tank containing a highly excitable seven foot black spitting cobra who doesn't like strangers.
