Being an animal lover myself, curious what kind of pets any of you guys have. I have a 3 year-old German shepherd named der Schatten. I used to always have cats at my old house but haven't had any the past several years, though my friend's cat just had a litter of black kittens.....

I have a five/six year old German Shepherd myself. Used to have a Corgie crossed with <breed I'm not sure of> that lived to be 17 before we had to have him put down.

I can't remember what the breed was, but he was black and white. Might have been a Kelpie.

Ummm...lesseee... 9 genera and 13 species.  Mostly rat snakes (elaphe) and pine snakes (pituophis).  But one boa, a water python, a hognose.  One rattlesnake and two cobras.

Do you need permits for most of those? Over here you can only own carpet pythons etc. without permits.

My girlfriend and I went to a pet shop the other week and discovered, to our great surprise, two Macaw parrots, each about a metre tall, not even in a cage. They go for $11,000 AUD each, you really need to buy more than one, they require enormous cages and you can't feed them avocado.

How the hell do you handle the rattlesnake and the cobras? Are they tame? I assume you've got bitten alot? or? probably stupid questions, but I've watched those snake-shows on animal planet.

Cobras are smart.  I've had them since they were small, and they know me.  You have to be careful, always, but they can be managed barehanded.  The rattler is pretty tame for what she is, which is a 15 pound eastern diamondback, but still, I use a hook for her.  Laws are more lax here in the US, and they vary by state.  Where I am, outside the city, I don't need anything but a breeder's license.
