Existential question
« on: August 27, 2006, 07:42:00 PM »

I know the Internet is a vast repository of human stupidity, but I sure as hell would like to know why people sign up to mailing lists using non-existent e-mail addresses.  That happens at least a couple of times a week.  I mean, seriously, what's the point?

That is a tough question man. Does this really happen?..fuck man. If I sign up for a mailing list, I give MY address , and proper info.. I only sign up for mailing lists that are up my alley.Other than that..fuck..if you want info, just go to whatever site and click "News"

Oh yes...I know why. Because people can be idiots.

You pretty much answered your own question with the opening statement "I know the Internet is a vast repository of human stupidity".  Actually, the WORLD is a vast repository of human stupidity, the internet just brings it all closer to home.  Grin

I think I told you this when we met in Montreal:  20 years ago the world was loaded with stupid people.  We just had limited exposure to them.  With the Internet, we can see it everywhere.

Unplug the Internet! deal laugh

Internet used to be an extension of the so-called 'bookworm mentality'. Some ten years later these very bookworms realized that they hadn't picked up a book in....well, ten years.  And then it struck them that they were not bookworms but networms.

They compost with red wiggler worms - why can't they do it with networms?

Don't unplug it just yet.

Actually with all due stupidity and ignorance the Internet is quite useful - a plentitude of metal bands would still be unknown to me if not for the internet...

As for the trolls and general bitches use the real life solution - IGNORE THEM!

No doubt about it, the internet is one of the most useful tools I have in my household. When I want to know something, I don't have to get on my bike and go to the library. With just a few mouseclicks I can research things right from the home. Quite convenient.

I think, in real life, people tend to not open their mouths and say as many stupid things as they do on the net because if they did they'd get a punch in the face too many times.  laugh

Believe me people really talk stupid things - it is easier to speak and do not think before - but it is true that the internet gives them lots of room and posibility to mouth off for no reason and no consequence...
